letter scale by Jakob Maul
This is an European scale with changeable postal rates. It's a JMAZ scale of Jakob Maul with a separate brass frame in which a cardboard was mounted on which the postal rates were printed. A German collector was kind enough to mail me a scan of such a postal rate cardboard, see below. This cardboard system was protected with a D.R.G.M. and was named PORTIMA.The scale itself also has D.R.G.M. engraved and also the name of the design: JMAZ. The chart of 500 grams has a stripe per each 5 grams. Every area of twenty grams is subdivided by a chequered band at the lower edge of the chart. Below some more pictures of this letter scale.
